SCRA World Skiff Championships on Loch Broom,

SCRA WORLD SKIFF ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS LANE DRAW

At Portsoy Traditional Boat Festival last weekend the lane draw for the World Championship took place with all present picking table tennis balls out of a bag to choose lanes for each heat, and for each final of races with up to 14 entries.

Note that lanes are numbered right to left, with lane 1 closest to the beach and lane 14 the furthest south. For races with more than 14 entries there will be two heats of approximately the same number of boats, with 14 boats in the final. Lane 1 will have the winner of Heat 1, Lane 2 will have the winner of Heat 2, Lane 3 will have the 2nd boat from Heat 1 and so on. Thus the fastest boats will be nearest the beach and not likely to be held up by slower boats at the turn, and of course the spectators will get the closest view of the likely contenders for medals.
